Clayton W. Cheek is the attorney and owner of Cheek Legal, PLLC, in New Bern, NC. Alongside his amazing staff, Mr. Cheek assists clients in the areas of estate planning, including complex wills and trusts, estate administration, guardianship, corporate law, business transactions, civil litigation and bankruptcy. Prior to opening Cheek Legal, PLLC, in March of 2025, Mr. Cheek practiced law with Hornthal, Riley, Eillis & Maland, LLP, for 7 years and then was a partner at The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek, PLLC, for 15 years.
Mr. Cheek graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1995 and after graduation worked in a fund raising capacity with Ducks Unlimited, Inc., in Memphis, Tennessee, prior to attending law school. Mr. Cheek obtained his J.D. and M.B.A. from Wake Forest University in 2002 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 2003.
Mr. Cheek is currently on the Board of Directors of Eastern Carolina YMCA and the New Bern Historical Society, he is the former President of the Rotary Club of New Bern, and has been recognized by Legal Elite and Super Lawyers in the areas of bankruptcy and corporate law.

Kathryn F. Williams, aka “Katy-Mac”, is the Executive Administrator and Senior Paralegal of Cheek Legal, PLLC. Ms. Williams graduated from the University of Mount Olive in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Administration. Prior to working at Cheek Legal, PLLC, Ms. Williams worked as a paralegal at The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek, PLLC, for over 13 years with a primary focus on estate administration, estate planning, corporate and business matters, as well as civil litigation including adversary proceedings.
Jameka Q. Lassiter
Paralegal
Jameka Q. Lassiter is a Paralegal of Cheek Legal, PLLC. Ms. Lassiter graduated from Johnston Community College in 2023 with an associate degree in Paralegal Technology. Prior to working at Cheek Legal, PLLC, Ms. Lassiter worked as a paralegal for The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek, PLLC, for 2 years, with a primary focus on civil litigation. Ms. Lassiter is currently on track to graduate from North Carolina Wesleyan University in May of 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership.
